In times of increasing digitality in the design industry, a development that relentlessly creates new trends, the Italian furniture designer Horm is deliberately slowing things down and taking a more analogue approach again. Horm CEO Fabio Melcarne says the aim is to return to the origins of design – with a showcase that focuses on real objects you can touch.
Horm’s new showroom is located in the heart of the creative district of Brera, a hotspot for international visitors during Milan Design Week. Showrooms and galleries open their doors and merge art, culture and commercial product design in a unique festival of the creative industry.

Horm has worked with the Italian architect Adalberto Pironi to create an atmosphere in its new 120-square-metre showroom that offers a balance between austerity and restraint so that the design furniture can be experienced without distraction. Four floor-to-ceiling windows open up an unrestricted view of the interior and create a flowing dialogue between the interior and the outside worlds – without any visual barriers. The architectural design is restrained but effective.
A central design element of the new showroom is the HARO herringbone parquet made of brushed oak, which gives the room its elegant and timelessly purist touch. This is complemented by ceiling mirrors to visually enlarge the room, a flexibly controllable lighting concept and walls in neutral tones that are enlivened by specific colour accents.
With the choice of HARO PARQUET Smoked Oak Markant brushed with naturaLin plus, the architect and designer furniture manufacturer opted for a high-quality HARO floor covering that is ideal for tastefully showcasing furniture. Depending on the incidence of light, the smoked oak shimmers in warm natural tones and creates a cosy and pleasant feeling in the room – while also being robust and hard-wearing. The natural look of the wood, including small knots, is a work of art in itself and makes each plank truly unique, with a design created by the natural growth of the tree.
These conscious design decisions represent a new normality – spaces that are flexible, inviting and adaptable to different uses and changing requirements. A meeting place for all those who view furnishings and elegant floor coverings as an expression of style and culture, in a perfect balance between creativity and internationality.
