Walnut is one of the finest types of wood, prized for its dark, warm color and fine grain. Its elegant appearance gives rooms a luxurious, timeless atmosphere. HARO uses high-quality American walnut for exclusive parquet floors that perfectly combine elegance and naturalness.

  • What are the properties of walnut wood?

Walnut wood is hard, dimensionally stable and elastic at the same time. It is easy to work with, resistant to wear and tear and impresses with its characteristic, curved grain. HARO covers the range of fine surfaces with a warm, dark color tone with walnut parquet.

  • Why is walnut wood so expensive?

Walnut wood is expensive because it grows slowly, is rare and only yields large boards to a limited extent due to its growth. In addition, the extraordinary look of walnut is in high demand. The elaborate processing and limited availability define the price. HARO uses carefully selected American walnut of the highest quality. The generous format of a parquet plank reflects its exclusivity.

  • Where does walnut come from?

The walnut tree grows in temperate climate zones worldwide, especially in Europe and North America. American wal nut (black walnut) is preferred for parquet flooring due to its coloring. It is highly sought after due to its dark shades and fine structure. HARO processes American walnut, which is known for its color intensity and high quality, and sources its walnut wood from sustainably managed North American forests.

  • What color is walnut wood?

Walnut wood is characterized by dark, warm brown tones with reddish or violet hues. The wood lightens slightly over time, but retains its elegant depth. HARO offers walnut parquet in elegant, natural shades and different grades that create an exclusive and harmonious sense of space.

  • How robust is walnut?

Walnut is robust, tough and hard-wearing, but somewhat softer than oak or ash. Nevertheless, it offers high dimensional stability and is suitable for living areas subject to normal wear and tear. HARO combines the natural robustness of walnut with modern surface treatments for durable, elegant parquet floors.

  • How hard is walnut?

Walnut wood has a medium hardness - it is firmer than beech, but slightly softer than oak. This balance ensures pleasant walking comfort and good workability. At HARO, a modern finish in oiled or sealed surfaces supports the natural stability of walnut and makes fine parquet flooring shine.

  • What advantages does a walnut floor offer over other types of wood?

Walnut flooring offers unique color intensity, a luxurious feel and natural warmth that sets it apart from other types of wood. It is durable, easy to care for and brings timeless elegance to any room. In addition, the limited supply of the raw material brings a natural exclusivity. HARO uses walnut specifically for exclusive parquet floors with a noble character and high quality of living.

  • What surface treatments are available for walnut flooring?

HARO offers walnut parquet with naturaLin plus (oiled surface) or naturaDur (sealed) - both surface treatments protect the wood and emphasize its elegant, dark appearance.

  • How easy to care for and durable is walnut parquet?

Walnut parquet is durable and easy to care for if it is cleaned regularly and treated correctly. HARO Walnut parquet impresses with high-quality surface finishes such as naturaLin plus or naturaDur, which protect the floor and maintain its elegant appearance in the long term.

  • What is the difference between American and European walnut?

American walnut is darker and more homogeneous in color, with deep brown to purple nuances, while European walnut appears lighter and more contrasting. Both are of high quality, but differ in appearance and price. HARO mainly uses American walnut (black walnut), which impresses with its uniform structure and elegant depth of color.

  • How does the color of walnut flooring develop over time?

Walnut wood changes its color slightly over time: it lightens under the influence of light and takes on a softer, golden-brown tone. This natural development underlines the character of the wood. HARO treats its walnut parquet floors with protective finishes to slow down the ageing process and preserve the warm color tone.

  • Which surface treatment (oil or lacquer) is best suited to walnut?

With walnut parquet, an oiled surface emphasizes the natural depth, grain and colour intensity of the wood particularly beautifully. Varnished (sealed) versions, on the other hand, offer more protection and are easier to care for - ideal for more heavily used areas. HARO offers walnut parquet with either naturaLin plus (oiled surface) for a natural look or naturaDur (sealed) for maximum durability.

What is important is even heat distribution and professional installation. HARO Walnut parquet is expressly approved for underfloor heating and, in addition to its warm appearance, also offers a pleasantly warm feeling when walking on it.

  • Is walnut wood sustainable and ecological?

Walnut is a durable, natural raw material that is considered ecological when sustainably managed. American walnut in particular often comes from controlled forest stands of certified origin. In general, wood is a climate-friendly material, as CO2 is stored during long-term use. HARO sources its wood from sustainably managed, PEFC-certified forests and manufactures walnut parquet in Germany in a climate-friendly way.

Hard shell, soft look: American walnut provides warmth and a sense of well-being.

Whether as an energy-rich snack after Nordic walking or as a delicious topping for homemade Bircher muesli in the morning, nuts are good for our bodies. The wood of the nut trees, which give us their aromatic fruits, also ensures well-being. Its harmonious appearance and chocolate-brown color make walnut wood a pleasure for all the senses. In addition to particularly fine parquet flooring, walnut is often used to make musical instruments or chess pieces. Bring the wood of the artists into your home as a plank or ship's floor and let yourself be inspired by the seductive charm of this parquet.

The American walnut is a member of the walnut family and originally comes from eastern North America. Its dark wood shines with a dark brown or purple-brown colour. Wood defects and irregularities transform walnut wood into a parquet floor with unmistakable character. Even the annual rings of the walnut can be clearly seen in the elegant grain.

American walnut or European walnut?

In contrast to the dark walnut wood from America, the wood of the European walnut is somewhat lighter and has a slightly reddish shimmer. The colouring of the black walnut, as the American walnut is also called, is more uniform than that of its European counterpart.

A resilient wood for your floor

When choosing your new parquet, it's not just the look that matters. Depending on the room in which you want to lay the planks, the hardness of the respective wood can be decisive. As wood is a living material straight from nature, the different types of wood do not have a fixed hardness, but rather a certain hardness range depending on how they grow. In the case of American walnut, this is in the medium range. American walnut is therefore a medium-hard wood that is stable and robust and at the same time flexible and elastic.

Colour change of walnut wood

A branch full of walnut leaves, with two ripe fruits hanging, nestled in the dense green foliage.

Whether in nature or in your own four walls, wood is an organic material that changes over time. The colour of real wood planks also changes after many years of exposure to sunlight. The UV light of the sun causes walnut to darken. The grain of walnut wood also appears less nuanced after long exposure to sunlight.

Design your home: What goes well with walnut parquet?

Walnut parquet gives your home a particularly homely atmosphere thanks to its warm chocolate brown to black-brown color. If you combine the elegant floorboards with dark wooden furniture, they will make your home even more cozy. With individual pieces of light-colored furniture, they skilfully set accents. Dark wallpaper goes just as well with walnut parquet flooring as wooden wall cladding. If you prefer a lighter color, you can of course also opt for a classic white wall. In the end, it's all down to your personal taste. Whether ship's floor or plank, an American walnut parquet floor offers countless design options.
