Frequently asked questions

  • Is oak a good wood for floors?

Oak is considered an extremely robust and durable wood. With its distinctive grain, natural hardness and stable structure, oak is ideal for flooring. HARO specifically chooses oak for its strength, durability and timeless look.

  • How long does oak flooring last?

A well-laid and well-maintained oak floor can last for decades or even a lifetime. And even minor imperfections and discoloration form a patina that makes the floor all the more interesting. Oiled oak is also easy to partially renovate. HARO offers a 30-year guarantee on oak parquet.

  • Why is oak the most popular type of wood for flooring?

Oak combines many desirable properties: high hardness, natural resistance to moisture and wear, an attractive grain pattern and a timeless look. This is why it is traditionally used as the first choice for wooden floors worldwide. For HARO, as a German brand manufacturer, it also offers the advantage of being a domestic wood species.

  • Is oak better than pine?

Oak is more pressure-resistant, harder and more resistant to wear and tear than pine. Pine is softer and more sensitive to scratches and dents, making it more suitable for rooms with low traffic. HARO offers various types of wood, but oak parquet is the most popular because of its wide range of applications.

  • What is red oak wood?

Red oak is a variant of oak with a reddish hue and striking structure. It originates from North America and is therefore used there in the American market. In the course of climate change, red oak is also being discussed as an alternative for European forests, but this is sometimes very controversial. HARO uses domestic wood species wherever possible, so HARO oak parquet is made from English oak, which is offered in various oak colorations in the range through refinement and wood treatment.

  • Why is oak wood so expensive?

Oak is expensive because it grows slowly, delivers high quality and requires sophisticated processing. The strong demand and drying processes as well as selective grading drive up the price. HARO only uses high-quality oak from sustainable forestry. To save money and protect the environment, HARO has been using multi-layer parquet for years, which means that only the top layer of precious wood is made of oak.

  • What makes oak floorboards so special?

Oak planks are characterized by their high dimensional stability, natural grain and excellent load-bearing capacity. They can be sanded several times, age aesthetically and are suitable for a wide range of living styles. HARO mainly processes oak into high-quality country house planks that combine an elegant look with technical robustness. However, wood imitations of oak also dominate in other product ranges, such as laminate flooring. This shows the great popularity of this wood look.

  • How expensive is oak wood?

The price depends heavily on the cut (plank format), the grade, processing and quality. HARO offers oak parquet in different price ranges and grades (rusticity).

  • What are the advantages of oak wood?

Oak offers high strength, excellent durability, visual variety and good sandability. It is comparatively resistant to moisture and temperature fluctuations - making it ideal for flooring. The top sellers in the HARO parquet range mainly include oak parquet planks.

  • What goes well with oak parquet?

Neutral colors, warm earth tones, light grey nuances and natural textiles harmonize with oak parquet. Furniture made of metal, leather or minimalist designs emphasize the organic structure of the wood. HARO offers many grades of oak that can be combined with all current living trends.

  • How do you care for oak wood?

Oak wood is basically easy to care for. Depending on the intensity of use and surface treatment , it should be cleaned with suitable cleaning products as required and oiled if the surface is oiled. Harsh chemicals and standing moisture should be avoided. HARO recommends individual care products for parquet that are tailored to the respective surface treatment. This ensures that the wooden floor remains durable and permanently beautiful.

  • Is oak parquet suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes, oak parquet can be used on underfloor heating systems - as long as the heating system and the parquet structure are designed for it. HARO approves all oak parquet floors for installation on underfloor heating, regardless of the heating system, taking into account the flow temperatures and professional installation.

  • What does oak wood look like?

Oak wood presents itself with a strong grain, visible growth rings and often knotty structures, but can also contain calm planks. Woods are sorted into groups by trained eyes in production. In terms of color, it ranges from light honey tones to golden nuances to medium brown to reddish-brown tones. HARO also offers many color variations in the oak range through wood finishing and treatment.

  • What color is oak parquet available?

Oak parquet is available in many shades - from light honey and natural colors to gray and tobacco-colored variants. Additional color worlds can be created by dyeing, steaming or smoking without using aggressive chemicals. At HARO you will find designs ranging from white to natural to dark to suit all living trends.

  • What grades of oak parquet are available?

Grades differ according to knot content, color variation and structure. Typical categories are "fine", "striking" or "rustic", depending on the number and size of knots and the play of colors. HARO sorts the wooden planks using Woodeye technology and also by hand into different degrees of rusticity for a visually harmonious laying pattern.

  • In which formats is oak flooring available?

Oak parquet is available in various widths and lengths - often in plank, strip or strip versions. HARO offers oak planks in 2.2 meter standard lengths as well as XL formats, but also has strip and strip parquet in its range, e.g. for herringbone installation.

  • What surface treatments are available for oak parquet?

Wood surfaces are classically oiled or sealed if they are classified as ready to install. However, there are also unfinished wood variants for use by craftsmen. HARO offers various surface treatments such as naturaLin plus (oiled) and naturaDur (sealed) depending on the wear and tear and the desired look.

  • How easy to maintain and durable is an oak floor?

An oak floor combines high robustness with ease of maintenance. Sealed or oiled surfaces protect the wood and make it easy to clean, while solid oak promises a long service life. HARO uses oak in a multi-layer structure with high-quality surfaces for increased durability.

  • Does oak suit every style of living?

Yes, oak wood is extremely versatile: whether rustic, Scandinavian, modern or classic - it can be combined in many ways with color, texture and grading. HARO picks up on many styles with its oak parquet designs.

  • Why is oak the most popular type of wood for parquet and floorboards?

Oak combines hardness, long life, beautiful grain and good stability - it reacts less strongly to moisture and temperature changes. These properties make it a particularly sought-after wood species in the parquet industry. HARO often uses oak for these reasons.

  • Can I sand oak wood myself?

Depending on the thickness of the wear layer, oak parquet can be sanded and resealed or oiled several times. However, this should be carried out by trained personnel, as the sanding machine can quickly cause really deep scratches. Applying the new protective layer also requires specialist knowledge. HARO Parquet floors can all be sanded.

  • Can oak wood darken over time?

Yes, wood always changes color over time due to the effects of light and oxidation. As a general rule, light-colored wood will darken slightly and dark wood will lighten. Oak in its natural shade will become slightly darker and more yellowish. The change depends on the incidence andintensity of light . It is therefore advisable not to lay carpet runners on new surfaces and to move them regularly later.

  • What advantages does an oak floor offer over other types of wood?

Oak is harder, more stable and more durable than many other types of wood. It offers an expressive grain, good sandability and high resistance to moisture and abrasion. It therefore has a clear advantage over softer woods such as pine or spruce. HARO offers many types of wood, with oak being the most popular parquet flooring option.

The timeless classic impresses with its wealth of variants.

Oak wood has always been praised for its resilience. This is because this tree species is naturally robust and can withstand the most adverse conditions. Throughout history, oak has quickly become a symbol of strength, endurance and longevity. All these positive attributes can also be easily transferred to oak planks.

Due to the positive properties of the wood, houses and ships in Europe were built from oak for centuries. Even the most beautiful buildings in Venice have been supported by oak columns for more than 500 years. So when you choose oak parquet, you can be sure that you are getting a stable floor covering in your home that you will enjoy for many years to come.

It is not without reason that oak is one of the most popular parquet woods. The golden-brown tone and pronounced grain lend any room a timeless beauty. Although oak parquet is extremely robust, it always looks elegant.

In Germany, oak is the most common tree species after beech. Tough but hearty - parquet made of oak wood

No matter whether the kids are running around the house or the neighbours are coming over for dinner. Parquet made of oak can withstand any stress. Because oak parquet is one of the hardest floors made of European wood. Hardly any other wood has greater strength and elasticity. And although oak parquet is already considered a very hard wood, this can be increased even further, e.g. with our parquet oak Carré from parkettmanufaktur by HARO. There, the top layer is cut across the trunk - also known as end grain in technical jargon.

Is there any colour change in oak parquet over time?

Since wood is a natural product, the colour of parquet changes when exposed to the sun's rays. Light parquet darkens over time, while dark parquet becomes lighter.

Therefore, even the light-coloured oak parquet becomes somewhat darker under long-term UV exposure. With thermally treated woods, however, the colour change is significantly less. Agate oak, for example, is one of the most colour-stable wood floors. Here, the colour hardly changes even after years. Thermo Oak Forte becomes slightly lighter, while Amber Oak darkens slightly.

Oak parquet: a popular floor covering with a diverse character

What types of oak parquet are there?

From amber oak and smoked oak to agate oak and thermo oak to sub-oak, at HARO you will find many other types of oak parquet in addition to the classics. Our oak range also covers almost all formats and sizes: From 4 m special lengths in the manufactory to classic country house planks, ship's flooring or all types of 2-layer strip parquet. Let yourself be inspired and decide according to your individual taste which oak parquet suits your home best.

Amber oak
Parquet made from amber oak comes in warm brown tones. The color spectrum ranges from a cozy light brown to a seductive chocolate brown, as with our trendy rustic country house plank 4V Amber Oak Sauvage. The planks of an amber oak parquet floor only darken slightly.

Smoked oak
We offer smoked oak parquet in a brown to dark brown shade, such as our rustic 4V Smoked Oak Sauvage plank. Our equally rustic 4V Smoked Oak Plank Puro White Sauvage proves that smoked oak is also possible in white.

Agate oak
Whether as Agate Oak Trend ship's flooring or as 4V Agate Oak wideplank, this elegant parquet flooring captivates with its dark brown color. Agate oak is one of the most color-stable wood colors.

Thermo oak
The dark plank 4V Thermo Oak Forte is also extremely color-stable. The thermal treatment makes the already naturally resistant oak wood even more durable.
