Jack’s Point Home in Queenstown: Barn-style country house

The architecture in New Zealand is influenced by creative minds whose designs always seek to incorporate the breathtaking landscape of the island nation. Look no further than Jack’s Point, a striking corner of the globe beyond the outdoor metropolis of Queenstown, where a private home has been created that is more reminiscent of a country barn than a luxurious residence.

Designed by the award-winning architect’s office of Rafe Maclean Architects, the brief was to design a family home for four that was to be extremely comfortable rather than grandiose. The clients expressed a wish for the design to be inspired by the design language of typical farm buildings. Large openings were to alternate with small openings, combining a protected private sphere and fantastic views of the surrounding nature.

The owners now enjoy a home that even surpasses all expectations. The lavish living area extends to around 250 square metres and is divided into two pavilion-like main elements, one housing the bedrooms and the other the living space. The angular arrangement creates a sunny living area with kitchen, living and dining room and a generous outdoor area. The bedrooms look out towards the natural scenery of the Remarkables mountain range.

The architects opted for a purely traditional style in terms of the materials: raw concrete, cedar wood and dark walls create a puristic and cosy atmosphere. The dark ambience is also reflected by the parquet floor chosen by the architects when designing the living areas. The brushed Parquet 4000 Plank 1-Strip Fumed Oak Sauvage acts as a wonderful complement to the wooden ceilings and dark painted walls. The HARO professional installers from “Install a Floor” installed a total of 120 square metres of high-quality Plank 1-Strip and thus contributed significantly to making the family home a cosy and comfortable retreat that blends perfectly into the natural landscape.

Das Eichenparkett harmoniert mit den dunklen Wänden und den großzügigen Fenstern, die tagsüber für eine atrmosphärische Beleuchtung sorgen.
